HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!!add oil...add oil.....

Hope it is still not too late to wish all of you a happy new year-2010.......

i was on a blogging hiatus for quite sometime. it has been quite a trying moment for me- these few weeks i mean-but now, with a sense of relief, i am back........

frankly speaking, i am truly elated to be reunited with my "work capsule" - most of those learning modules and lesson preparation happened here- including those AHA- moments....

not forgetting being reconnected to wonderful colleagues and beloved students.

bet the schedule is going to be hectic as ever. but, quoting my head panel's word of wisdom- 'its time to kickstart the teaching and learning mechanism'- i am going to 'add oil' (right choonpei....this time, i'm using ron97 so the citra would be smoothsailing...) to the rusty cogwheel thus reducing the friction ...hopefully i won't be stucked in the second gear this time around....

rest assured my students, as i have declined the offer to derma-and hopefully, my 'wise' decision to stay in kola would be a blessing in disguise. i am yet to comprehend the 'collateral damage' i've created.

in the mean time, i promise you that we are going to have a lot of fun in our english class.....

Things that made me happy today.

1. Waking up early after a good 8 hours of sleep.

2. Tommy,my doting cat, greeted me the moment i opened my bedroom door and licked my toe.

3. The smell of Anais-Anais Cacharel eu de toilette on my skin after the quick morning shower.

4. The new route i took to school - its the Kangar-Seriab-Marhom Kayang - Kuala Perlis road.The view is to die for -

5. The girls greeting me with their gigglish smile the moment i parked my car and helping me to carry my things.

6. Another important task accomplished.

7. My favourite dish on the menu - cendawan goreng tepung and telur bistik!

8. A wonderful lunch at KFC Kuala Perlis with the gigglish girls-gossipping, teasing each other and laughing till our tummy hurt....followed by another lunch at KFC Kangar(what?2 dates in a row at KFC?Have u lost ur mind,zill?),this time around with a close buddy-Suhaila. We shared stories about life,teaching,coaching and exchanged opinions on how to improve our panel for better. Sounds like mean business, but more of a cathartic woman to woman talk. need that kind of conversation every once in a while to keep our sanity alive...and i did leave the KFC restaurant with a wide smile on my face....

10.A simple but satisfying dinner with my hubby beloved and danial.........

New Grade of A+ for SPM.....

As we read in the New Straits Times recently (October 3, 2009), a new system will be used to grade all papers in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination starting this year. This development is in line with the appointment of Tan Sri Muhyiddin as a Minister of Education.The Education Ministry announced that a new grade of A+, followed by A, A-, B+, B, C+, C,D, E and G for those who fail. It will replace the previous A1, A2 or B3, B4, 5C, 6C, 7D, 8E and 9G

PETALING JAYA: A new grading system for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) will be implemented from this year.
Education director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom said the change would provide a detailed breakdown of excellent candidates who obtained grade As in the examination.
“The change means there will now be a new grade of A+. Previously, the highest grade possible in the SPM was 1A,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Under the present system, students are graded as 1A, 2A, 3B, 4B, 5C, 6C, 7D, 8E and 9G while the new grades would be from A+ to G .
Alimuddin said the change was based on feedback from various quarters that the existing system did not provide a more detailed breakdown of excellent students.
“The change in the grading system will enable more qualified candidates to be chosen for training programmes and new scholarships, such as the one announced by the Prime Minister recently,” he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said in June that a new category of Public Services Department scholarships would be introduced next year based purely on merit, regardless of race.
Alimuddin said the Cabinet approved the change in the grading system last month.
“This will not affect the examination at all as it only involves a change in the grades given,” he said.
He said school principals have been directed to explain the new grading system to students sitting for the SPM this year.

Phenomenal Teacher

i know a phenomenal teacher.

She was wonderful. working with the kids has been the best part of her job.

She was one of those teachers who reached her students heart, which went beyond classroom environment.

She made a difference not just in the classroom but to her student's personal lives too.

Times spent in her classroom was always cheerful and filled with laughter. Jokes were cracked all the time not only through her, but also through her innovative approach to reach our hearts and intellectual minds.

She was a compassionate and caring person.

She has great impact on students as she demonstrated genuine empathy, support and kindness.

She didn't teach us what to think, but rather how to think.

She took risks and changed our perception about failure.

She was truly PHENOMENAL!!

*I made a stupid blunder by presenting Min Jun a table clock on his birthday today. for the Chinese, its a taboo to present a watch or clock on someone's birthday as it would mean 'sending' him away..please excuse my ignorance MJ.

* MJ is 17 today. But according to the Chinese(as told by Chiawei), you need to add another year, making MJ 18 today. Being 18 makes MJ eligible to do what other 18-year-old does-like smoking, driving, and what not......
